  • In the heart of North India, nestled in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, lies a small yet incredibly beautiful place — Barot Valley. Situated at an altitude of 1,835 meters, this serene and picturesque village rests on the banks of the Uhl River. Surrounded by dense cedar forests, cool mountain air, and the soothing sound of flowing water, Barot is a destination that brings you closer to nature.
  • Barot is famous for its Trout Fish Farm, managed by the Fisheries Department. Every year, it hosts an Angling Meet, attracting fishing enthusiasts from across India and abroad. If you’re a nature lover or someone who enjoys fishing, this place is a paradise waiting for you.
  • Another major attraction here is the Shanan Power Project reservoir, built by the British in the 1930s. This reservoir, surrounded by lush greenery, adds to Barot’s scenic charm and timeless appeal.
  • Barot is not just a picturesque village; it also serves as the gateway to the Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary. Spanning 278 square kilometres, this sanctuary is home to Monal pheasants, black bears, wild cats, and monkeys. For trekking enthusiasts, Barot offers numerous scenic trails leading toward the Kullu and Kangra valleys.
  • In the evening, you can enjoy local dishes at a small dhaba, savouring Rajma-Chawal, trout fish, Madra, or the traditional Himachali Dham.
  • This region is also known for its vegetable and pulse cultivation, which makes the local food fresh, organic, and full of natural flavours.
  • To reach Barot, one must first arrive at Jogindernagar, located about 65 km from Mandi. From Jogindernagar, Barot is another 40 km away, along a road that winds through terraced fields and dense forests — an unforgettable journey in itself. For a touch of adventure, you can even take the Funicular Trolley Ride from Jogindernagar.
  • Barot remains beautiful throughout the year, but the best time to visit is from March to June, and again from September to November. During these months, the weather is cool and clear, and nature is at its most stunning.
Spend at least 2 to 3 days in Barot to truly experience its peace, natural beauty, and local culture.
  • Barot is not just a destination — it’s a feeling. A place where time slows down, serenity fills the air, and amidst the mountains, you rediscover yourself.
